چکیده
Presence of circumsporozoite protein (CSP) was Plasmodium falciparum detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in a sample of s.s., and collected in Anopheles gambiae A. melas A. pharoensis Guinea-Bissau during October and November 2009. The percentage of P. infected samples (10.2% overall) was comparable to earlier studies falciparum from other sites in Guinea-Bissau (9.6-12.4%). The majority of the specimens collected were identified as . which had an individual infection rate of A gambiae 12.6 % across collection sites. A small number of specimens of A. coluzzii, A. x hybrids, . and . were collected and coluzzii A. gambiae A melas A pharoensis had infection rates of 4.3%, 4.1%, 11.1% and 33.3% respectively. Despite being present in low numbers in indoor collections, the exophilic feeding behaviors of . (N=18) and . (N=6) and high infection rates A melas A pharoensis observed in this survey suggest -malaria transmission potential falciparum outside of the protection of bed nets. 1 1,3 1 2

Plasmodium falciparum infection rates for some Anopheles spp. from Guinea-Bissau, West Africa
Presence of Plasmodium falciparum circumsporozoite protein (CSP) was detected by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) in a sample of Anopheles gambiae s.s., A. melas and A. pharoensis collected in Guinea-Bissau during October and November 2009. The percentage of P. falciparum infected samples (10.2% overall; confidence interval (CI): 7.45-13.6%) was comparable to earlier studies from other...
متن کاملInduction of nitric oxide synthase in Anopheles stephensi by Plasmodium falciparum: mechanism of signaling and the role of parasite glycosylphosphatidylinositols.
Malaria parasite (Plasmodium spp.) infection in the mosquito Anopheles stephensi induces significant expression of A. stephensi nitric oxide synthase (AsNOS) in the midgut epithelium as early as 6 h postinfection and intermittently thereafter. This induction results in the synthesis of inflammatory levels of nitric oxide (NO) in the blood-filled midgut that adversely impact parasite development...
متن کاملDetection of plasmodium falciparum infection in anopheles mosquitoes from Keonjhar district, Orissa, India.
The determination of the presence of malaria sporozoites in wild caught Anopheles mosquitoes remains an integral component in understanding the transmission dynamics in area-specific malaria epidemiological studies1. Mosquito infection rate, together with concurrent human-landing density data provide vulnerable parameters for estimating the intensity of transmission and entomological inoculatio...
متن کاملThe ABO Blood Group System and Plasmodium Infection in Iran: A Comprehensive Study
Background: Geographical distribution of ABO blood groups affects by race, ethnicity, migration and some infectious agents, such as Plasmodium species. P. falciparum is the major causative agent of death in malaria that can affect ABO blood group distribution in different populations. Therefore, the objective of the current study was to determine the effect of p. falciparum on ABO blood group d...
متن کاملHigh Plasmodium Infection Rate and Reduced Bed Net Efficacy in Multiple Insecticide-Resistant Malaria Vectors in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo
Accounting for approximately 11% of all malaria cases, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is central to malaria elimination efforts. To support vector control interventions in DRC, we characterized the dynamics and impact of insecticide resistance in major malaria vectors in 2015. High Plasmodium infection rates were recorded in Anopheles gambiae and Anopheles funestus, with Plasmodium ...
